The reality is that just like you need more than Anti-Virus to protect your systems, you need more than just backup, you need a Business Continuity solution. I offer Datto as a service to my clients that not only backups all the files so that any of them can quickly be restored when needed, but also takes an image of their servers and puts it on an onsite appliance then streams it to an internet cloud. What this allows is that if a production server fails the system can be booted and ran in production on the local appliance or onsite hypervisor.
If the site is down the servers can be spun up in the cloud for users to access until the emergency is over and things can be restored to your local production systems. The object is to keep you in business and allow you to sleep at night. Backups can be ran as often as every 5 minutes and protects, files, databases and email servers. Each backup is checked for Ransomware and other malware, then booted on the onsite appliance each day to verify the integrity and restorability of each server.
I also recommend implementing Sophos Endpoint protection on Servers and workstations on the network. They work with the firewall to communicate together to keep out the cyber criminals. This incorporated with intercept X, the best anti-ransomware software that actually records every change when a ransomware attack appears to have started, then when it’s verified stops the attack and reverses the encryption and puts your system back automatically to minimize or eliminate any downtime for the end user.
Obviously training all employees how to recognize and deal with threats is your first line of defense but you need to be doing more to prevent loss and downtime. If I can help you to protect your systems and implement an inexpensive yet effective Business Continuity strategy for your company
